Jekyll Island is one of the most popular islands for those who visit coastal Georgia. The 5,500-acre protected island is home to 10 miles of shoreline, over 20 miles of bike paths, a vibrant community and hosts a variety of events, family-friendly activities and attractions. Owned by the State of Georgia and managed by the Jekyll Island Authority, the island’s development is limited to just 1,609 acres to preserve the critical barrier island ecosystem. From the iconic Driftwood Beach to the island's historical homes, Jekyll Island has something for everyone.
The largest barrier island in the Golden Isles, St. Simons Island lies across the immortalized Marshes of Glynn, made famous by poet Sidney Lanier. Moss-draped oaks line the winding island streets, creating a picture-perfect image worthy of a Faulkner tale. St. Simons offers some of the areas best restaurants, bars and shopping.
The mainland port city of Brunswick is laid out in a formal grid similar to Savannah's, with city streets and squares still bearing their colonial names. Docked at the wharf, the array of shrimp boats are ready to trawl the local waters—evidence of the area’s rich seafood industry. Watch the ocean vessels come into port, see the shrimpers unload at the docks along Bay Street and then sample the catch of the day at one of the fine restaurants.
